The Plum City Watershed area in eastern Pierce County had a history of flooding. Under the Federal “Watershed and Protection and Flood Prevention Act” many measures were undertaken to control flooding and soil erosion. One of these was a large dam, completed in 1972, which created the 116 acre body of water known as Nugget Lake.
Nugget Lake County Park was named for the gold mining that took place in the late 1800’s. There is no evidence as to how much gold was found. The lake is 1.8 miles long and 550 ft. wide. Walleyes, bass, bluegills, and crappies are fished year round. Because only electric trolling motors are allowed, it is one of the most peaceful lakes you will visit in Wisconsin.
Camping fees are paid in addition to entrance fees. Free entrance for Senior citizens.
